Waiting on the Lord… and waiting

Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him. (Isaiah 30:18)”][/tagline_box]
Waiting is not a popular topic these days. Who wants to wait for anything? Nobody, that’s who! But it’s a topic I love because bound up in the idea of waiting is a quiet expectation that something is about to happen. You never know exactly what. You may know what you want to see happen but, when it comes, it’s seldom exactly like you had you in mind. That’s what makes the Christian life such an exciting ride!
God has already said in Jeremiah 29:11 that all His plans for us are good, and He already knows what they are! They’re pre-wrapped like gifts under the tree on Christmas Day. But waiting through the night until the first light of dawn can be the hardest thing in the world.
Everything in us wants to dive right into those good things He has promised, but think of today like Christmas Eve night. He waits to be gracious to us and have mercy on us, but we also have to wait on Him and resist the temptation to take things into our own hands. Not waiting could mean a lump of coal in our stocking rather than the great gift we expected!
